The top 3 eco products I recommend for Earth Week!
In no particular order...
1. The Cuppow!
My amazing soap making friend Jenn, who loves mason jars as much as I do recommended these mason jar "cup" toppers.
I use mason jars for a lot of things; as storage containers, flower vases, candle lanterns you name it. All you have to do is look on Pinterest for the latest ideas on what you can do next with a mason jar.
My most favorite way to use a mason jar is to fill one up each morning with my homemade smoothie or juice. Easy to clean, thick glass, they look cool and pretty much always stimulate a discussion at work. "What are you drinking?" "Is that a mason jar?" The only thing my mason jar was missing was either a hole for my glass straw or a Starbucks style lid.
The Cuppow answered my prayers. Turn a canning jar into a travel mug! BPA Free and good for kids and adults. Eat your heart out Starbucks.
You can buy them on Cuppow's website here.
2. Farmaesthetics
I am a natural body care product lovin' nerd. But I mean really natural not "made with natural ingredients". Honestly no one, and I mean no one governs or oversees the meaning of natural. Petroleum is "natural".
So I like my goods to be made with entirely truly natural ingredients. To me natural means if I can't eat it, it does not go on my body. Your skin absorbs what you put on it. One more time... your skin absorbs what you put on it. Think about that when you read the ingredient list on your beauty/body care products. For a list of what you should make sure is not in your stuff click here. That list is from Adria Vasil's new book "Ecoholic Body".
So to the point. I first learned about Farmaesthetics in Martha Stewart's Whole Living Magazine. Farmaesthetics is a natural skin care line that was created by Brenda Brock. And when I say created I mean she grows the herbs in her products. She knows the soil.
Her work inspires me. I dream about having fields full of herbs, a store as airy and bright as hers. She even hand writes her product labels.
I love everything but their Deep Lavender Rub and their Midnight Honey Bath and Beauty Oil feel as good, if not better than they sound. You can also order starter/trial kits.
For more information and to order Farmaesthetics please see their website.
3. bioSnacky Sprout Growing Jar
Ok so you could make your own with a mason jar... maybe cuppow will sell a lid for this next... hint... hint.
But the design of the BioSnacky Jar by A.Vogel is smart and exactly what you need. Small holes and a built in stand to let the sprouts drain.
Here are the simple steps to growing your own sprouts. It's like having a small garden in your kitchen... no bugs or weeding required.
1. Buy a bioSnacky and wash it.
2. Buy sprouting beans and seeds. Mung beans grow fast and have a great crunch. Sunflower seeds are super tasty but take longer. There are tons of kinds. Chances are they are in the bulk section at the grocery store.
3. Soak them for a few hours or over night.
4. Leave them out of sunlight
5. Rinse them a few times a day
6. Enjoy - add to salads and soups
We love home grown sprouts and can't get enough of them. Which is good thing because they are alive and full of enzymes, vitamins, and amino acids. They are tasty, fresh easy to digest.
If you have kids they will love growing their own sprouts and I bet they will love eating them too!
I even give them to Winnie our five year old bouvier x. She loves them and watching her eat them makes my heart smile!
